How token pricing works
Tokens are the units of text our models process. You are billed for input (your prompt) and output (the response) separately. As a rough guide:
- In Ge'ez script (Amharic), a token is often 1 to 2 characters.ሰላም! እንደምን ነህ? ≈ 9 tokens
- In Latin script (Afan Oromo), a token is often a syllable or word.Akkam jirta? ≈ 4 tokens
- 1,000 tokens ≈ 750 words, about half a page of text.

Frequently asked questions
What currency am I actually charged in?
All usage is metered and billed in Ethiopian Birr (ETB). The USD and EUR figures on this page are indicative, converted from ETB at the current daily exchange rate so you can estimate costs in your own currency.
Is translation priced separately?
No. Translation runs on the Addis-Aleph LLM and is billed at the same token rates as text generation. There is no separate translation fee.
What is the new voice pricing?
Addis Voice is the current text-to-speech standard, billed at a flat $15 per 1M characters for every language. The older per-minute voice models (Addis Voice 1, Amharic and Afan Oromo) are deprecated and kept only for existing integrations.
What's the free credit?
New accounts receive 500 ETB free on signup once on signup. It works across every model with no card required. It is a one-time credit, not a recurring allowance.
Do prepaid credits expire?
Credits do not expire within 12 months of purchase. We notify you 30 days before any balance is at risk of expiry.
